Facts About Australia Public Holidays in Australia 2010

If you are planning a tour to Australia for business or vacations, it is advisable to get familiar with the public holidays in Australia. In Australia, public holidays and daylight saving may vary slightly with the states, cities and territories, which are declared every year in advance. However, the national holidays are the exceptions to the general public holidays.

National Holidays in Australia begin with 1 January, New Year's Day. The other national public holidays include 26 January - Australia Day, Easter Weekend in March or April depending the western calendar, 25 April – ANZAC Day (marked for honoring military veterans), Second Monday in June – Queen's Birthday Holiday, 25 December – Christmas Day, and 26 December – Boxing Day. Even if a public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday and/or Tuesday are declared as Public Holidays though the celebrations take place on the same day. Most of the retail shops and malls generally remain open on the public holidays to cater to the rush of holiday and festival shoppers.
