Located on the southeast coast of Australia on the Tasman Sea, Sydney is the largest and most populous city of Australia. Sydney is the capital of State of New South Wales. The population of around 4.5 million inhabitants comprises of a large numbers of cosmopolitan people who have immigrated from various parts of the world. Sydney was established as the first British Colony in Australia in 1788. Sydney city is built on the hills surrounding Sydney Harbor, which is famous for the renowned landmarks Sydney Opera House and Harbor bridge.





Sydney metropolitan area is surrounded by various national parks, botanical gardens, and many bays, inlets, rivers and beaches including Bondi Beach and Hyde Park. Sydney is one of the few major cities of the world that have been classified as Alpha World Cities. Sydney is an important hub for arts, culture, media, education, finance, entertainment, tourism and sporting events including 2000 Summer Olympics, 2003 Rugby World Cup and 2008 World Youth Day. Climate of Sydney is temperate with warm summers, cool winters and rainfall throughout the year. Although the city is not prone to cyclones but flash flooding caused by east coast low pressure depression zones are common. Sydney Town Hall, Sydney Royal Theater, City Recital Hall, the Capitol Theater and the Wharf Theater are few important landmarks of Sydney's art and cultural scenario.
