Located on the Timor Sea, Darwin is the capital city of Northern Australian Territory. With a population of around 125,000, Darwin is the most populous city in the entire northern Australian Territory, which itself is a sparsely populated region of Australia. Darwin has turned into a modern and multi-cultural city after having established as a small outpost and a port in Australia. Being closer to Asia, Darwin is an important hub and a gateway of Australia to many Asian Countries including Indonesia and East Timor.

Climate in Darwin is a peculiar tropical savanna climate with separate wet seasons and dry seasons. The city receives heavy rainfall during the wet season and it is popular for its spectacular lightning during the wet seasons. The present day modern city of Darwin has been rebuilt twice once after Japanese Air Raids in WWII and once after the devastating damage caused by Tracy Cyclone in 1974, which had destroyed more than 70% buildings of Darwin including some very old stone buildings. Darwin is an easy access point to Kakadu National Park, which is famous for its biodiversity, uranium mines, a great variety of flora and fauna and some endangered species of mammals. Mining, tourism and energy production are the three main economies of Darwin.
